The Keys to Becoming an Extraordinary Leader
Over the past three years, our team has been leaning into tough conversations and encouraging nonprofits everywhere to take action when it comes to implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in their work. In Part 3 of our DEI Webinar Series, we'll explore common challenges and highlight the work of those who are creating meaningful change in our industry.
If you're just joining us on this journey, we encourage you to check out Part 1 and Part 2 of this series.
Disclaimer: We are not certified DEI trainers, but we are fundraising and donor relations experts with passion, education, and background in this work. Simply put, this work is incredibly important to DRG and we feel a responsibility to lead the charge for change in our industry. We are not perfect, but we continue to learn and strive every day to be our best—and we hope we inspire you to do the same.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Talk is Cheap: Transitioning from Belief into Action
May 4, 2023 | 1 pm ET | $60
Why can’t we actually seem to do anything about DEI? What is holding us back? The steps forward have been laid out for us; are we lacking consensus? Are we having the truly difficult conversations? Why are DEI committees, task forces and other groups failing and flailing at nonprofits? Why are DEI professionals resigning in droves at our organizations? What do we do with performative leadership and passive allyship? Why are black boxes on social media, rainbow flags and ‘safe spaces’ not enough? Join us for this provocative webinar about why our shops are having such difficulty going from conversation to action.
The Long Road: Putting the Work into Action
May 11, 2023 | 1 pm ET | $60
Colorado State University and The Ohio State university teams took inspiration from our first webinar series and spent more than a year implementing the changes they wanted to see from their advancement offices. They have revamped their processes and programs, and are sharing this new vision far and wide. How did they get senior leadership to sign off on those changes? Has there been donor outrage and/or protest from front line fundraisers? The work wasn't quick or easy, but the impact is profound. Join team members from these institutions as they demonstrate their commitment to DEI and learn how they implemented positive change in their organizations.
Say What? Cancel Culture, Selective Outrage, Calling Out and Other Unproductive Practices
May 18, 2023 | 1 pm ET | $60
It doesn’t matter how thoughtfully the message is delivered; no one likes hearing or having the impact of their behavior pointed out. As we continue our journey of working in the DEI space, how do we also create a compassionate space for listening, understanding, offering new information, and correcting assumptions? How do we manifest patience and understanding for those in a different place on the journey than our own? Is there a difference between tolerance and inclusivity? Is there a time to call out and cancel? If so, when? How do we also leverage the opportunity to work together, inviting people in rather than excluding them? As we pursue belonging for everyone, we must remember our humanity and recognize that, for some, the very thought of these discussions causes anxiety and fear. Join us in working together to create safe spaces for all while tackling difficult conversations.
Practical Applications and Inclusive Data Practices
May 25, 2023 | 1 pm ET | $60
Is data at your organization kept in an inclusive manner in your database? Are greetings and salutations preventing your organization from practices that promote acceptance of everyone? What is your policy on ‘dead’ names? Does your organization put pronouns on staff or guest name tags? Are you still using terms like ‘maiden’ name to identify prospects? How do you handle non-colonial names, names with international symbols and diacritics, or name transitions like Lew Alcindor to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? Time to join us to examine all the ways you can use your database to create inclusion from the beginning, at the original source of record – your database.
