TOUGH CONVERSATIONS IN DONOR RELATIONS
PART CONTENT, PART CONVERSATION: A SPECIAL DEI WEBINAR SERIES FOR FUNDRAISING PROFESSIONALS
Those of you who know me well know that DEI isn't just a buzzword for me—it's a passion and something I've studied both formally and independently for decades. I am not a certified DEI trainer, but I am a fundraising and donor relations expert with a background in this work that allows me to feel comfortable leading uncomfortable discussions. Join me for a series of tough conversations about how we can make our work more inclusive and create change within our organizations. These are important issues that we need to discuss as an industry. This series will be part content, part conversation—and you'll walk away with a better understanding around how to have difficult conversations with your leadership, staff, and donors. These are the questions we need to ask, and quite simply, this is the work we need to do. These sessions can be purchased individually, or save $25 when you purchase the entire series.
SESSIONS INCLUDED IN THIS SERIES:
Balancing Act: Recognizing Donors Through a DEI Lens
$50 | Recording Now Available
Donors want to feel special. We want to recognize them. What happens when recognizing the elite among our donors is in direct contradiction to our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion? How can we say we’re committed to inclusivity when we have giving societies that are based solely on a donor’s capacity to give large amounts of money? What do giving and recognition societies look like in light of our commitment to DEI as an organization? Join us for the rethinking of donor recognition. How do we balance the need to recognize our donors while understanding innately that the way we currently do this alienates others? In this session we’ll take a hard look at ourselves and our donors and find out what to do in these situations.
Painful Power Dynamics – Readjusting the Scholarship Recipient Experience
$50 | Recording Now Available
Student scholarships can be one of the most rewarding parts of our work. However, the power dynamic among donors, student recipients, and the institution has moved into an unhealthy space that is tenable and no longer sustainable. How do we level set donor expectations, create positive student experiences, and meet expectations all around? We do so through examining what is necessary and realistic for both students and donors moving forward. If we start with the bold statement that it is OUR responsibility NOT the students to thank the donor, our current processes unravel from there. Join us for this educational webinar about how to revamp our current processes, educational pieces and expectations for now and in the future to create a better experience for all involved.
It Starts at Hello! Making Our Communications More Inclusive
$50 | Recording Now Available
Mr. and Mrs. Who? Common greeting and salutation missteps on our communications can be the starting point in breaking relationships with our donors. Antiquated salutations, householding rules in our databases, and more can alienate donors. How do you draft correspondence that is inclusive not only of both sexes but also of non-binary gender identities? In order to foster a more inclusive world, we have to consider and be willing to shift away from "the way we've always done things," and towards the way our donors deserve things to be done. How do we balance personalization with standardization? Join us in this webinar for a conversation about communications and inclusivity.
Who is in the Driver’s Seat?- Over-restricting is NOT Donor Centered
$50 | Recording now available
So many times, we just don’t have the gumption to say NO to our donors. We think that allowing the donor to add many restrictions to their funds is being donor centered. In reality, allowing a donor to over restrict their fund criteria backfires. It causes administrative issues, impacts the awarding experience, and sets unrealistic expectations with our donors. We end up with unspent money, unhappy donors, and broken trust. How do we get ahead of this behavior and keep the donor satisfied with their level of involvement while holding firm to our boundaries, especially our legal boundaries? We will explore this topic together, cover issues of internal and external education, and how to solve this problem for the long term.
